Professor Ian Frazer founder of the HPV vaccine is the guest speaker at the Medicines New Zealand Parliamentary dinner this evening, hosted at Parliament by the Chair of Health Committee, Simon O’Connor.

The HPV vaccine protects millions of people worldwide against cervical cancer. Professor Frazer will provide insight on the need to foster public and private partnerships to improve future health outcomes for patients and the importance of research and development in the health sector.  

Professor Ian Frazer is the founding CEO and Director of Research at the Translational Research Institute Australia. He is President of the Cancer Council Australia and advises the World Health Organisation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on papillomavirus vaccines. He was named Australian of the Year in 2006  and was also awarded the prestigious Prime Minister's Prize for Science in 2008.

“Professor Frazer’s discovery is evidence that through private and public partnership groundbreaking research can be performed to better develop our quality of life. New Zealand has the economic structure to support researchers but the foundations and partnerships need to be in place for them to succeed, “ says Hon. Heather Roy, Chair of Medicines New Zealand.

“Professor Frazer’s knowledge on research and the positive effects it has on the future development of health is set to start a few conversations in the room, ” says Dr Graeme Jarvis, General Manager of Medicines New Zealand.

The Medicines New Zealand Parliamentary Dinner will be attended by MPs, health specialists, dignitaries, researchers and patient group representatives.
